Our History
The ministry of Calvary Chapel O'Hare started in 1993. Pastor Jeff Deane and Assistant Pastor Bud Carlson, were both a part of our sister church Calvary Chapel Elk Grove.
Both felt the LORD leading them to start a new church in Franklin Park, right near O'Hare airport, just outside of Chicago. So, after much prayer, they took a leap of faith and ventured out. After many temporary homes and lots of exciting challenges, we now have our own building on Grand Avenue in Franklin Park, inside the old Grand Bowl Lanes.
Calvary Chapel O'Hare is a non-denominational, Bible-based church. We have a weekly Sunday service, along with a women's ministry, great studies and fun events throughout each week.
We are a growing ministry, and would love for you to come grow with us in the grace, knowledge and love of Jesus Christ!
History of Calvary Chapel
Calvary Chapel O'Hare is affiliated with a movement of God called Calvary Chapel.
While our church is independently run and financed, we consider the Calvary Chapel churches around the world, to be our sister churches and we govern ourselves by the distinctives of the Calvary Chapel movement.
That movement was started back in the 1960's in southern California. Pastor Chuck Smith and his wife Kay were ministering at a church called Calvary Chapel. They felt the LORD leading them to reach out to all of the lost young hippies who had turned to drugs and false religions in the wake of Vietnam and the other challenges of the time.
Those hippies soon saw that the only way to true peace was through the Prince of Peace, Jesus Christ. Since then the ministry has exploded to include over 1,000 churches around the world, and several Bible colleges.
Pastor Chuck's calling from God was to start a church that had a balance between teaching God's word and staying open to the gifts and working of the Holy Spirit. It is that balance that makes Calvary Chapel unique.
Without a foundation in the Word of God, those gifts of the Spirit can not be properly used. And so, we as a church seek to make the teaching of God's word our most important priority.
